The British car brand Bond emerged in 1947, when industrial designer Lawrie Bond was looking for a manufacturer for the series-production of a three-wheeled car he had designed for his wife. He ended up with Sharp's Commercials Ltd.
They bought the design of the Bond Minicar under the condition that the name would remain. Lawrie Bond continued to be associated with the company as a consultant and designer and amongst others designed the Bond Equipe series.
This 2+2 sports car, based on the Triumph Herald, was produced in collaboration with Standard Triumph and equipped with a 63 hp Triumph Spitfire engine. In 1963, the first model proved to be unsuccessful, the boot was only accessible by folding down the backseat which also hardly provided any room for adult passengers. Therefore, the following year already a new version was introduced: the GT4S. The addition 4S stands for four-seater. A special feature was the fiberglass body, a material Lawrie Bond had worked with during his years in the aviation-industry. This model was more spacious and a small lid providing access to the trunk. Again, a lot of Triumph parts were used. Until 1969, a number of variants of the Equipe GT4S were produced. After the takeover by Reliant, production stopped finally in 1970.
