In 1963, Alfa Romeo introduced the 105 series coupe, the successor to the Giulietta-based 101 series Giulia. It was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro for Bertone, as one of his first major projects for Alfa Romeo. This platform, which eventually grew into the GTV 1750 and 2000, featured a host of welcome improvements, including four-wheel disc brakes and twin Weber carburetors. The design for the Sprint GT had several unique features, most notably that the leading edge of the hood sat an approximate quarter of an inch above the nose of the car. For this reason, these early and most-desired variants are referred to as the “Step-Nose” or “Scalino.”
Delivered new to San Francisco in the fantastic original color of Bluette, this 1965 example makes a gorgeous presentation. The car was thoroughly restored in 2015 by marque specialist Alfa Italia Inc., as documented by receipts on file totaling nearly $50,000. This comprehensive work included an engine and transmission overhaul, rebuilt suspension, new wiring, interior, cosmetics, and many other details. The car has been enjoyed sparingly since restoration.
